Skin Types
If I were to ask you right now what type of skin you have, would you be able to answer?
Some of us would, and some of us aren't sure, but would like to know.
There are basically 3 types of skin type, with variations within those types. I'll go into each, and how to identify which kind you have.
Dry Skin
Dry skin can belong to people of all ages. It is lacking in oil or, surprisingly, in water, or both. And of course environmental conditions such as wind, sun, and heat can make the skin even drier.
Characteristics of Dry Skin:
- It can look and feel tight
- May have visible flaking
- Has a dull appearance
- Can feel rough
- Dry skin will develop fine lines and wrinkles sooner than other skin types
- The skin is often delicate, easily irritated, and usually sensitive to cold weather
- Sensitive to most skin care products
- Pores are almost invisible

Combination Skin
Combination skin refers to skin with two or more distinctly different characteristics on different parts of the face. The most common combination skin is oily in certain areas, and then dry or normal in the other areas.
Characteristics of Combination Skin:
- An oily T-zone (forehead, nose and chin), where oiliness, large pores, blemishes and blackheads may occur.
- The area around the eyes and throat is normal or dry.
Exfoliation is helpful for combination skin to prevent clogged pores and to help control excess oil.

Oily Skin
Oily skin has oil glands that are simply too active. Oily skin appears most often among ages 12 to 22, but it is becoming more common in women of all ages.
Characteristics of Oily Skin:
- Takes on a shiny appearance soon after cleansing
- Thicker, firmer, and less sensitive than the other types
- Has a tendency for clogged pores, blackheads, and blemishes
- Pores are visible
