Skin Types - Variations on the Basics

Skin Types - Variations on the Basics

To review information about the 3 basic skin types: Dry Skin, Oily Skin, and Combination Skin, click here.

While many of us fit nicely into one of the 3 main types of skin, many of us do not. That can and does causes problems for us when most skin care products are designed only for those who fit into the 3 main categories.

L'Bri Pure n' Natural recognizes this fact, and has designed product systems that will meet the needs of all skin types, even problem skin.

Dry Skin can be dry, slightly dry, or very dry.

For slightly dry, or dry skin, the Gentle Skin Care Trio works best. This includes Gentle Cleanser, Gentle Freshener, and Gentle Moisturizer.

For very dry skin, L'Bri recommends the Gentle Skin Care Trio with Intense Moisturizer.

Combination Skin can be a combination with more dry than oily, more oily than dry, or the typical combination.

For combination skin that is more dry than oily, use the Combination Skin Care Trio. This set comes with the Deep Pore Cleanser, Gentle Freshener, and Gentle Moisturizer.

For a typical combination skin type, oily in the T-zone and normal to dry everywhere else, use the Deep Pore Skin Care Trio. This includes the Deep Pore Cleanser, Deep Pore Freshener, and Oil Free Moisturizer. This trio is especially beneficial during the winter months.

For combination skin that is more oily than dry, the Deep Pore Skin Care Trio will work best. This Trio includes the Deep Pore Cleanser, Deep Pore Freshener, and Oil Free Moisturizer.

Oily Skin can be less oily, oily, or very oily.

For oily skin without blemishes, use the Deep Pore Skin Care Trio (Deep Pore Cleanser, Deep Pore Freshener, and Oil Free Moisturizer).

For excessively oily skin with blemishes, use the Deep Pore Cleanser, Deep Pore Freshener, and the Aloe Jelly as a healing, lightweight moisturizer.

Basic Skin Types

Skin Types

If I were to ask you right now what type of skin you have, would you be able to answer?

Some of us would, and some of us aren't sure, but would like to know.

There are basically 3 types of skin type, with variations within those types. I'll go into each, and how to identify which kind you have.

Dry Skin

Dry skin can belong to people of all ages. It is lacking in oil or, surprisingly, in water, or both. And of course environmental conditions such as wind, sun, and heat can make the skin even drier.

Characteristics of Dry Skin:
  • It can look and feel tight
  • May have visible flaking
  • Has a dull appearance
  • Can feel rough
  • Dry skin will develop fine lines and wrinkles sooner than other skin types
  • The skin is often delicate, easily irritated, and usually sensitive to cold weather
  • Sensitive to most skin care products
  • Pores are almost invisible
Dry skin needs a gentle cleanser that won't strip the skin of its natural moisture. It needs extra moisture to control dryness and to keep the skin soft and supple.
+++++++++++++++++

Combination Skin

Combination skin refers to skin with two or more distinctly different characteristics on different parts of the face. The most common combination skin is oily in certain areas, and then dry or normal in the other areas.

Characteristics of Combination Skin:
  • An oily T-zone (forehead, nose and chin), where oiliness, large pores, blemishes and blackheads may occur.
  • The area around the eyes and throat is normal or dry.
Combination skin needs special treatment on the oily areas and additional moisture for the normal to dry areas.

Exfoliation is helpful for combination skin to prevent clogged pores and to help control excess oil.
+++++++++++++++

Oily Skin

Oily skin has oil glands that are simply too active. Oily skin appears most often among ages 12 to 22, but it is becoming more common in women of all ages.

Characteristics of Oily Skin:
  • Takes on a shiny appearance soon after cleansing
  • Thicker, firmer, and less sensitive than the other types
  • Has a tendency for clogged pores, blackheads, and blemishes
  • Pores are visible
It is important to keep oily skin clean, and to use oil-free cleansing and moisturizing products.

Effective, Natural Three Step Systems form the Core of
L'Bri Pure n' Natural Skin Care Products.

You might be wondering why it takes three different products just to wash your face. Each product builds on the other properly clean, oxygenate, and hydrate your skin. Here's what each step does:

  • Cleanser - Wash your face to rid it of dirt, bacteria, and pollution that builds up on your skin each day. Proper cleansing should flush out your pores without overstimulating your oil glands.

  • Freshener - Restore your skin's proper pH balance and ward off blemish causing bacteria by using a Freshener. Skipping this step will result in more blemishes down the road.

  • Moisturizer - Even the most oily skin types still need moisturizer. This step hydrates your skin, calms the oil glands, and keeps your complexion balanced.
Some tips:
  • Wash your face twice a day, every day using the full trio (Cleanser, Freshener, and Moisturizer). It takes only takes two minutes to clean your face properly!

  • Apply a small amount of water to your face after you apply the moisturizer. Our products are very concentrated and do not contain water. In order for the moisturizer to work properly they must have water added.
