Benefits and Blessing of Good Health

Here are just some of the benefits and blessings you will gain from practicing a healthy diet and lifestyle:

. No more aches and pains!

. No down time due to illness

. More money in your pocket (fewer doctor visits, medical insurance, prescriptions)

. More energy to do things, which means...

. Able to accomplish more of the things you've been wanting to do

. Better quality sleep

. Look better, younger

. Live longer

. A more positive mental attitude

Honestly, who doesn't want all these things? But most people don't seem to really believe they are attainable.

Part of the difficulty lies in looking at things from a perspective other than that with which most of us were brought up. We have come to expect that just by growing old we will lose our memories and our minds, have brittle bones and break our hips, die from cancer, heart disease or diabetes, and generally grow more unhealthy.

Just because that is, tragically, the case for most of the population of this country, doesn't mean that it is unavoidable.

The truth is that we can control, to a very large degree, how healthy we are.

Of course there are some things we cannot control: accidents, or the few truly genetic diseases. But for the most part, good health is within the reach of every single person, if we are willing to learn and to put forth a little effort.

When you don't have good health, nothing else seems to matter much. When you are healthy, it seems you have the whole world before you.

When you don't have good health, you are busy looking after yourself. When you are healthy, you can help others.

Remember that there are several facets to being healthy:

. Eating a diet of primarily uncooked fruits and vegetables

. Eliminating disease-causing foods

. Exercising at least 5 times per week, preferably daily

. Getting enough fresh air

. Getting enough sunshine

. Getting enough sleep and rest

. Dealing effectively with stress

Go one step at a time. Make one change at a time, beginning with where you are right now, and you will very soon begin to reap all the incredible benefits of good health. It is so worth it!

You can do it!!

Our Incredible, Self-Healing Bodies

Our bodies were designed to heal themselves. Is that a new concept to you?

Think about it. When you cut yourself, what happens? Your body instinctively knows exactly what to do to begin healing, without your doing a thing for it.

Blood comes out to help cleanse the wound and other things happen from within, and as the skin knits together a scab forms and even knows just when to drop off to reveal tender, new skin underneath.

That's God's design in our DNA.

Now, what would happen if someone had a cut on their arm and every time it tried to heal, they kept cutting it again? (creepy thought, I know) Would it ever heal?

No, of course not! It would never get a chance to.

Question: Is the self-healing still in our body? Yes, but it can't take place until we stop interfering with what our body is trying so desperately to do for us.

The inside of our body are just the same - it is constantly rebuilding itself IF we give it the right building materials and stop putting in the interfering and harmful substances.

Here is a list of the 5 most deadly foods, and I am trusting that you know that alcohol, tobacco, and drugs - legal (prescription) or illegal - are also deadly and will just kill you quicker:

#1 Anything of Animal Origin - that includes meat, chicken, fish and dairy products

#2 Sugar

#3 Sodium Chloride - also known as Table Salt

#4 White Flour

#5 Caffeine

Right about now you may be wondering what in the world you can eat!

We need to start thinking for ourselves - thinking out of the box. Just like your mother told you long ago, "Just because everyone does it doesn't mean it's right!". How true that is!

Most everyone I know does eat all of the 5 deadly foods - including myself for most of my life - and every single one of them has health problems to one degree or another.

We have all heard about the "health care crisis" in this country. I submit that "health care" would be better termed "disease management" - and very poor management, at that.

Prescription drugs do absolutely nothing to cure the disease - remember, only our bodies can do that. They may seem to help, but they are only masking the problem temporarily, plus giving entirely new symptoms.

Changing one's diet is an excellent first step, a little at a time, remembering that our goal towards good health is a process to be enjoyed along the way.

Start with eliminating just one deadly food from your diet per week and see how you feel.

What Exactly is a Healthy Diet?

Everywhere you look these days, someone is coming out with a new diet. You can pick one according to your blood type, eye color, age, high carb, low carb, weight loss, all raw, 85% raw, high protein, etc.

Most seem to work for a short time, but what really works, and why?

Most people, when asked if they eat healthy, will reply “Yes”, because most people think they are. What would your answer be? Is there an objective standard?

The answer is a qualified Yes!

Virtually all of the truly healthy diets, past and present, recommend raw fruits and vegetables in abundance. There is disagreement about how much of each, which should predominate, all raw or a little cooked, and what else can or cannot be added along with fruits and vegetables, but at least there is a solid foundation – eat your fruits and vegetables!

Even the American Cancer Society acknowledged this on September 28, 2006:

“The American Cancer Society recommends eating 5 or more servings of fruits and vegetables each day to help prevent cancer. These foods contain important vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, and antioxidants and are usually low in calories.”

So why are there no studies showing this? One of the problems of scientifically validating the benefits of a diet high in fruits and vegetables is that there is no money in it, nor can fruits or veggies be regulated or patented in the way prescription drugs are.

The studies that you typically read about cost millions of dollars, and most of the time they are slanted to come up with a desired result anyway, frankly. There is too much money in the medical and pharmaceutical fields, as well as in time invested, for most within their ranks to be honest or objective.

One glorious exception was “The China Study” by Dr. T. Colin Campbell, a research project that culminated in a 20-year partnership of Cornell University, Oxford University, and the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine, a survey of diseases and lifestyle factors in rural China and Taiwan.

Here is what he had to say as a result of their findings:

“After a long career in research and policy-making, I have decided to step ‘out of the system.’ I have decided to disclose why Americans are so confused,” said Dr. Campbell. “As a taxpayer who foots the bill for research and health policy in America, you deserve to know that many of the common notions you have been told about food, health and disease are wrong.”

“I propose to do nothing less than redefine what we think of as good nutrition. You need to know the truth about food, and why eating the right way can save your life.”

He found that: “People who ate the most animal-based foods got the most chronic disease … People who ate the most plant-based foods were the healthiest and tended to avoid chronic disease. These results could not be ignored,” said Dr. Campbell.

You can read more about the study for yourself at: http://www.thechinastudy.com/about.html

Until next time, enjoy those delicious fruits and veggies!
